I am pretty sure that describes me! In the year that you have missed me, I have changed jobs, I have found a new club where I have friends and a few drinks once a month (Melbourne Rum club - good fun), I have a new house (and the mortgage to go along with it...), and am feeling more settled with life than I have in a long time.
Let me tell you, trying to get to this point was a long and difficult road. First of all, job changes are difficult, changing from the familiar to the unfamiliar, making new routines, new friends, learning new processes, expectations, systems, all things to get used to, and quite frankly I am still learning and adjusting. I have made ever more friends in Melbourne which is fantastic, I guess by 4 years in the city, I had best have some by now!
Second was the house hunting... WOW is all I can say. SO many open houses, so many unsuitable properties. Some places, by the photo, you think - yeh, that looks great, let's take a look. And then, well if the photos weren't photoshopped, well the place certainly needed a certain, let's say a judicious application of a wrecking ball. Some places were nice, but not in a great position. Or the land size was never going to be big enough to house the husbands car collection (he wishes), or his nerf collection (how I wish it wasn't true). Or perhaps the neighbours just seemed shady, or you were too close to power lines. FINALLY we found the right one, and just don't get me started on the mortgage process - not something I wish to repeat any time soon. Moving was an ordeal, but to finally have my own space, it really makes it worthwhile. I love my little piece of the "Australian" dream, with my new vegie garden, and all the kitchen cupboard space I can fill.
Sitting here reflecting, whilst having a Saturday afternoon drink, makes me realise I am lucky. My exercise and eating healthily have fallen by the wayside. That is my next challenge. Getting back on the health wagon. Once challenge at a time I guess.
